Lad wanted in leeds

Hi Danny, would you be interested in taking on an apprentice ? We can either recruit for you or if you have someone in mind we can enrol them onto the apprenticeship.

Plastering takes 2 years
EWI takes 1 year

Apprentices will all be registered for an apprenticeship cscs card so they will be allowed site access.

16-18 is fully funded
19+ employer contribution is required due to lack of funding

CITB will pay a grant of £6000 for plastering apprentice
£3525 for EWI apprenticeship

Around 6 over 2 years IF they pass.
I have just waited 3 years to get my final payment because the citb are f**k**g useless and are constantly losing forms.
He also only had 1 site assessment in 2 years.it lasted 2 hours!!
He only had 8 modules to complete!!!
 
Wen we got grant for apprentices who did 1 day a week at college for about 8 months we got £1500 and we had to pay college £500 so £1000 wen u take that off them T***s got £8000 from government..for teaching the f**k all u learn absolute f**k all in college to them the apprentices are just numbers and there feed there head with s**t
 
There is only one teacher at our local college and he's useless.
He Was a plasterers labourer 10 years ago and has NO site experience,just a few years spreading.
I bet he couldn't even skim a full room
 
It's a joke lad said he once put a wall on and it was 2 wet to trowel so teacher said dnt worry bout it leave it its break time..ye like u can do that in real world wen lad came to us he was level 2/year 2 and he was hopeless dint even know what a angle trowel was and how to do wet angles etc and that with going to college full-time for a year 5 days a week

My lad has been doing scratch coat for 3 weeks now on a m2 panel!!

Jokers arnt they..thing is there don't even teach there just tell them what to do then come back to see the finish then tell them to re-do it..well that's at Leeds college of building anyway..spend half a day doing stupid written classwork doing maths and s**t but not asking the relevant questions like how you work out m2 and stuff..saying that gud job there don't teach them that

the grant is min £6000 for a two yr apprenticeship and £3525 for a one year apprenticeship.
 
with our apprenticeships the learner needs to come into out training academy 4 times in a year one is a two week block the other are week blocks over 12 months.

they must come in 8 times over the 2 year term. two weeks to start then again the week blocks to suit employer. inbetween this time an assessor will attend the workplace once or twice a month
 
Sorry Phil as ur abit over the hill I'm afraid at 27..we had a lad at 20 was with us for a year was absolute dog s**t for 9 months of that year and as soon as he cud put a bag on he wanted stupid money as he was at that age where he wanted a decent wage but dsnt work like that in the plastering world its s**t money for a gud 4 years so in my oppioion u need to be starting at 16/17..gud luck tho just try as many firms as possible which does no harm

I'm 23 mate, grafter though, thing is when you're learning a trade, it's exactly that, you're there to learn, money should be an issue till you know what's what.

I'm 23 mate, pick things up fairly quickly once I'm stuck in and a grafter though, thing is when you're learning a trade, it's exactly that, you're there to learn, money shouldn't be an issue till you know what's what.
 
Been waiting for my grant for our lad for ages and then told only getting 1500 big con especially when they get thousands off government

Cost a fortune to pay them while in college and there digs etc and teach them stuff you would never let your lads do

We got £1500 grant my mates aunty does accounts etc at Leeds college of building and there get £7000 roughly for every student we get £1500 absolute joke
 
I had a 17 year old in July this year. He had been to Geasons in Manchester but had not been taught how to use a hand board and trowel. So no experience what so ever. I had him for 3 weeks at £150 a week and did no labouring.

Most of our work in that 3 week period was machine work so little chance of using a trowel. But he did learn about the machine side.

4th week I paid him for a week back at Geasons and £80 petrol. Did they teach him how to use a hand board and trowel? No. Nvq in English.

He failed to tirn up on the Monday of the 5th week so he had to go. £680 down the drain!

What I suggest to Geason is if they are going to have these lads in their Manchester training cemtre then at least teach them how to fill a hand board up with plaster and then get 1 trowel full off leaving 2 trowel fulls left on. It will be a good start.

Also payments monthly. A lot of lads quit within the 13 week period so usually the contractor pays out with no return.

Now, I will start a trainee off labouring. They will have to cover their wages from day 1. No more paying out wages for training only when they quit before they start to earn pay back.

There is a point above about wages for a trainee. Lads are or may be affordable but a 21 + year old even on nmw will probably not cover his wages as a trainee. There does become an awkward stage when the skill goes up then the wage goes up. But then if the trainee is the labourer as well then there becomes a time when the trainee needs more than a labourers wage but also he doesn't have time to labour anymore.

The joys of plastering...last time I seen a "kid" onsite...turned up in a people carrier 30 buckets every spat and trowel going olypic stilts rush rush rush .....I gave him his beads n scrim on tuesday.
Thursday evening I was packing up my plot done goin different site tomorrow ..mine done in 3 days.
Hes just loading out his next floor !!
3 days on a floor ...with his god given tools everywhere.....I thought this kid was the future....until friday !

That seasons rang me saying we can find u a apprentice but he wud have to cum to training centre in Manchester on block release I said I'm from Leeds she still tried selling me it I said u pay for petrol and expenses etc and il take 1 let's just say there didn't agree..its a joke we've had 5 apprentices and all jacked costing us a packet last 1 we had for 1 day 18 year old did a day was easy aswell all he did was sweep and scrape up and carried a few bags from a to b did no mixing at all as thought we wud break him in gently he txt us at midnight saying nah that plastering isn't for me..in 20 years there will hardly be any spreads at all I don't reckon kids just don't want to do it
 
Firstly we do not sell apprenticeships we place young kids and adults in employment within the construction industry - training providers do not get paid until that person completes their 2 year apprenticeship and secondly we have loads of kids traveling further than Leeds to out training academy.

We do block release as some employers find this more useful than having the apprentice lose a days work to attend college once a week.

There are loads of grants available to employers that hire an apprentice so any employer taking on one shouldn't be out any expense what so ever and if this is the case then you should speak to the college or provider you are with and get them to apply for the grants available to you.

U mite use place instead of sell..how much do you make from each apprentice? What ur reply to rigsby about his lad not touching a handboard and trowel at college etc? And him being out of pocket?
