Hi first time on,I've been asked to quote a job Re skimming in between beams on a Grade 2 listed property, lime plaster obviously has to be used but does it stick onto painted surfaces with unibond or do i have to hack off the existing top coat, also at present the finish is fairly rough so will i be able to achieve a more setting like finish with the lime plaster. Thanks in advance.

Lime wont stick to emulsion paint, prime with acrylic primer/grit
You can get a decent finish, usualy two coats, dry overnight between.
Sponge top coat and trowel up.

Cant realy see the point of using Lime plaster over something modern ie the paint especialy using a modern bonding agent

yea agree....went back to do some internal plastering today for previous customer....

did some lime rendering last year ,we talked about limewash ,clay paint, lime paints

they have stuck some cheap thin masonry paint over it!!!!!!!!

what a waste of time that was..................

hi mate u should hack off the lime puttty or top coat then replace with lime putty u cand not use any thing but water to help the the lime putty to stick there is no point in unibonding the surface as lime has to breath also if it has been painted then there is a good chance that the lime has blown tap the ceiling if it sounds hollow it needs to come off good luke i would price this as a hack off and replace mate as lime can be a nightmare and the house is listed so u hav to replace like for like
