lintel above fire place

hi lads,gotta patch up the external side of a chimney breast where a concrete lintel has been installed. a woodburner stove is being put in. regarding all the heat issues, what would be the best stuff to apply? would bonding be ok as it's only external & would you guys plaster the underneath of the lintel? cheers

sorry im confused do you mean internal im sure you do.i would use sand and cement use rapid set if smal patch and skim into existing you shudnt need to plaster underside if it looks ok if not give it a tight coat of sand and cement dont forget bonding agent.

hi,yeah meant i'm not doing the inside of the fire place,just the front of the lintel & patch up the exsisting s&c which is about 1 inch thick. it's a big fire place but the wood burner aint gonna be to big. so bonding a big no no? inch thick render,would that be bout 3 coats? cheers

as i say use rapid set soon dub it out.would nt use bonding

They give off too much heat for Gypsum as Rock says s&c.
