Little task of the day

A few cracks above a bay window has somehow turned into needing some bricks, insulation, wondering if I smear s**t all over brick work it will hold them all together

Ok would be asking them if that bay window has definitely got the correct steel 're enforcement bars in. Have seen loads like this where they have not. Hence the sagging and cracks.

Get it checked out jess by a structurel enginer. Don't take a chance and end up in the poop.

Didn’t notice any lintels.

Those old store risers don't use lintels as the only thing between the ground and roof above the first floor bay are the windows and the timber frames in between. The bricks aren't doing anything other than filling the gap.

Easiest and best way to deal with them is fcuk the bricks off, put celotex in between the timbers and board it. Outside face can be ply and render, tiles, cladding or nasty cheap plastic cr4p.

Obviously all that depends on how much the customer is willing to spend.

Yes, yes that's all very well but I want to hear from the forums building guru. So what do you have to say @Lodan ?

They are moving house.

I am no builder... that’s a given. I put bricks where there should have been bricks. Floated drywall over existing bricks to mush them together better. Put roofing felt against s**t cladding, used cavity slab and then boarded. Hope that passes!

I'm starting to suspect that @imago is stealing ideas off of both @Nisus and @Lodan! Very poor behaviour.

As Oscar said "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness" I merely collate the pearls of wisdom offered by such knowledgeable craftsmen.

I was going to say something about 'standing on the shoulders of giants' but I didn't want to upset @Nisus :sisi:
