In the midst of a load of personal traumas for Lee and separate ones for me (2016 is a w4nk year!) the work's still getting done.

This is one of those "must be done by Christmas" jobs. Three year old building, and they wanted a 150 year old wall in the loft room that we're converting/building. Ironic really, as a 150 year old building was knocked down to build these town houses. o_O

Anyway, we're nearly there with the first phase of the work. Brick slip wall with lime pointing to copy an internal wall she found. Odd shape bricks, odd sizes, slight wave here and there in the courses, big chips out of some bricks, a couple of small make up slices in some courses etc. etc.

All done with 20mm reclaimed bricks cut to slips as the floor wouldn't take the weight of a wall.

Turning out well if I do say so myself.

Basically the boy moylan is too rough and you had to resort to using bricks rather than his skimming

are brick slips easy to lay... is it like tiling?

Yes and no. With something like this it's difficult to get your head into not having it flat and square so that it looks random like the original.

Generally slips are easier than tiles as the gaps are 10mm instead of 2 or 3. The key is the adhesive, cement based and don't use rapid set. 10mm timber strips for spacers. Pointing's a ball ache no matter what type of slips.

In the spring we're doing the terrace wall so that it looks like it continues behind the patio door.
