Howdy folks not sure if this is in the right place but i was interested to find out if anyone knows anything about making pre-mixed bag renders?what kind of equipment was involved etc.i worked with a guy years ago who made his own and it cost next to nothing and was actually pretty good he talked about needing a dryer etc
any ideas?

You can buy batch mixers they mix 2-3 ton at a time they cost around 20K you can get all the raw materials pre dried unless you plan to use damp/wet sand from builders yard which i wouldnt recommend as it contains to many impurities that can affect the end product finish. you will also need a bagging line they cost around 50k. you can of course mix everything dry in standard mixers and weigh and bag by hand . 1 man operating a mixer will mix around 2-3 ton a day and another man bagging. With a batch mixer and bagging line the same 2 men will mix and bag around 40 ton a day hope this helps

And dont forget product testing certain aspects will need testing such as strength and adhesion. if you goto the bba they charge 20k+ for any render application there are other testers such as ceram who can offer the same results for a lot less

Cheers for that CKJ the dry mixing sounds like my budget i take it polymers and retarders etc can be brought dry how would you go making something like gypsum plaster in a mixer with dry products something like MF?

Are you for real? Having been to the BG plant that makes MF and seen the set up required I can assure you that if you have a big enough budget to produce something along the lines of MF at a competitive price, then you should buy yourself a nice little island in the Caribbean and retire.

Spot on

if you a a niche product of your own then go for it but dont even think about takin on the big boys

some guy came up with idea of insulated render and i think he sold a few bags not sure and dont quote me but i think he just bought premixed render and added polystyrene bean bag fillers

Id love a small island in the carribean but my budget won't quite stretch that far but as far as taking on british gypsum they have nothing to fear i live on the other side of the world where gypsum plasters aint common I've got a few basic formulas so id like to experiment.as for the insulated render goes I've used loads of that and render systems is right its basically bagged render with bean bag beans in it we call it "coco-pops"

hey if you can make it quartz (crystalline silica) free then you might be onto a winner in more ways than one.

ha is that that warm wall stuff? Got a bba though, spent the money in the right place. Wouldn't the render matrix just act as one hell of a cold bridge though(so ultimately very flawed then??)
