Hi guys I am new to this whole spraying thing .. I need some help and some info on it if you could .
I am thinking of buying the marshalltown hopper gun . I have a compresser that will do the job . Can some one tell me how you go about the whole process and tips and tricks and if the gun is anygood ????

Help would be great :)
 
Hi there @easterlow lots of machine users on here, they do however go to bed 9-915pm so you have to be on a bit earlier to catch them :RpS_thumbsup: I'm sure you'll get all the answers you need pretty soon :RpS_thumbup:

I have one I don't use it much at all but I am on my third gun. I have always thought they were kind of messy and they seem to want to leak texture out of the orifice, but each gun has always been a little better than the last. I see that they have an optional stand that you can buy it's cheap enough that I'd pick one of those up. You need to do a real good job of covering. Find out where the electrical breaker box is (I don't know how many times I've tripped the circuit in the middle of spraying) Make sure that you practice the texture on a sheet of covering or paper before going at it on the wall. If you're doing a texture on drywall I always use a drywall texture spray mix and not thinned down taping mud / joining compound. If I need to put on a lot of wall texture I have a buddy that owns a company that specializes in wall & ceiling spray on textures & has a good size truck with a large hopper mounted in the bed & if I do a real good job of covering he can just come in and blow & go and it's a pretty reasonable cost.
I've used them quite a bit for spraying a foreground dash/sand finish coat over stucco (1 cement, 2 lime, 3 sand).

Welcome to the forum. Where are you based?

We can supply you with this product but have not sold any as of yet so can't give you any feedback. I'm not sure if many have even been sold in the UK, it is more aimed at the US market.

What materials are you looking to Spray?

they are ok for tyrolean finish and for spraying topcoats like silicone renders. I use one if we needed to return to a job we had spray finished previously where a repair etc is required in matching texture. Saves setting a machine up.
 
And tips on what plaster to use and everything wpuld be greatly appreciated as I am completely new to this style of plastering :)
 
@easterlow I have just replied to your email. The Marshalltown Hopper gun isn't designed for Plastering, in all honesty I think you would be causing yourself more problems looking at getting into this. Spray Plastering is most suited to large areas with a specialised Plastering Machine i.e the M-tec M100 or Ritmo.

The set up time of the Hopper Gun would be quick, but the over-spray and general mess created wouldn't be worth it in my opinion

I use a hopper sprayer for various things. I wouldn't use it for a first pass onto plasterboard. Its not that kind of gun. They are quite crude in their design as textures and splatters are the main objective for using one.

They are great for tyro mind
