Messed up Plastering :D How do you get to stick to Artex?

Well this is rather embarrassing but I messed up my plastering job pretty badly..
Had finished ceiling a few days ago, today was giving it a mistcoat with a roller while I suddenly hear some crackling sound ,than I started to see a crack in ceiling appearing and ran away just in time while all my work from few days ago came tumbling down 1sec later :D

reason- poor /non existing adhesion to the old glossy painted artex ceiling.
A day wasted, but at least it came down now before all the other works were finished.
I hadn't plastered over this kind of surface before and it seemed fine to me, but obviously not the case.

Can someone aware me on what is the correct procedure on preparing such ceiling before doing a plaster coat on it?

Screwing down another layer of plasterboard would be my last option as I don't have anyone to help me hang it for the next few days.

I read somewhere that you can chuck in a bit of sand with your PVA and prime it with that?
Tried on a test area to apply 1:3 PVA with a bit of sand, it has dried now and is rough as a sandpaper so seems like that's what I needed?

Were you using that bed head as a ladder and chair for hop up :estudioso:

lol at all the replies :D, this was a total DIY in my own house, I had done few ceilings in other parts of the house where there wasn't this shiny artex ceiling and it turned out fine, needless to say my total plastering experience is about total of 150m2 done, live and learn I guess.

I admire your work guys tho as this stuff is damn brutal on your body, having done it few times with a good trowel I have got a good hang of it but wouldn't want to be doing this as day job for sure :D

Just overboard it, knock out a couple of deadmans to help you putting it up then no help needed

Use 6 x 3's and just hold them up while you get a screw or two in

And thats just skimming.
Most people nowadays dont realise that REAL plasterers also apply backing plasters, do all the plasterboarding onto timber or brick/block, prep work, sand and cement, internal damp proofing, external renders like s&c, pebbledash, monocouche and much more.

Someone please remind me why plumbers, sparkies and joiners think they are worth more than us?....

Rant over...sorry.

Leakies and sparkies can charge whatever they like as people don't like to be left without comfort

That's manual labor 101 ;)
Be glad you aren't born in some 3rd world country or you would have to do the same job for $100 a month :D

Just been to see a lounge re-skim where most of the walls are glossy paint.
Was telling him it needed a £60 tub of Bondit and a few hours the day prior to get it all prepared.
I could sense him glazing over & his bullshit sensor was in overdrive & I don't expect a return call.
But I would rather lose a job to a doleite than watch PVA run in streaks to the floor boards.

And that is the trouble with this game ... too many right and wrong ways of doing things.

Plumbers and Electricians are regulated by quango's and have to stick to guidelines.

Hang on @wauwau ...
Did you just insinuate I just do some crappy manual labour job and that I should be thankful for crumbs?

Then come on here...embarrassed that you cant do such a simple job???
Really??

Let them live with dusty brickwork in their homes and see if theyre comfortable :fuckyou:
I understand where you coming from, but I never seen anywhere advertised emergency plasterer as such, there's no such thing I reckon, if a ceiling comes down it comes down it will be cleaned up and repaired at some point, people won't give monkeys about it. Whereas having no power or heating or hot water completely different, they will charge whatever they get away with

I have a friend who's doing house developments now in Indonesia and I kid you not the going wage for construction workers who do the hard stuff is about $80-120/month....Just saying it could be a lot worse.

i got my house ful rewired and plumbed after xmas...the qoutes between them all were utter madness.
went to the expensive side and called both back for fuuck ups.
but you cant live in a cold dark house !!
unless your single !!

but most wouldnt move into a house that needs plastering because it looks like a building site.
