Hi,

Some advice needed please.

I am having my property all rendered and I have had k-rend base coat applied all over and yesterday the renderers applied the k-rend silicon ft top coat on 2 of side the walls. They completed the application but did not complete scratching and said they would come back tomorrow to do it and this this would not be an issue. Is that right? I thought the monocouche is scraped immediately after applying.

This morning the wall is looking slightly patchy and the renderer said they would apply a thin coat over and scrape. Is this right ok? I am worried that there are effectively 3 coats now.

It also rained last night which they claimed would be fine as its light rain. I did check the weather and showed reluctance but contractor I am doing this through said he would be taking full responsibility.

I haven't personally seen their work but I am doing this through the contractor who said he used these guys many times before.

Wotkd very much appreciate your feedback comments on my situation. Thank you.

The renderers came this morning, did some scraping and have left. Unfortunately I wasn't at the property nor live there at the moment so could not talk to them directly. The contractor whom employed the renderers has said since that since there is some colour variance he is now going to apply another thin coat 1-2mm on top then the final scraping will be done after that. He said that the renderers will return in 2 days to do that!! I said the current render will be hard by then and u won't be able to scrape it!! And if you apply the thin coat of 1-2mm and then have to scrape 1-2mm as directed by Krend u are effectively back to the current unfinished coat!!? The contractor keeps trying to reassure me that once finished there shall be not colour variance. I feel stuck. I've also invested so much in the material and he is employed to do so much other work which is doing a very good of. I'm just unhappy about the rendering.

Can someone tell me how such jobs are normally done with such poor unpredictable weather conditions if at all?

download k rend application PDF off their website all you need to know is there you cannot put 3mm over the top

Ask Jimmy900 on here to have a look, on paper he's more qualifed than most of us. Apparently.

I did a job Friday mate got the k rend on by 2 o clock by 4 we had light rain then got there at 8 next day to scrape no colour difference and looked sweet when finished .
you don't scrape straight away and don't apply 2-3mm over top then scrape will look s..t

Isn't it if the blocks are wet or you scrape back in the rain? Not if you get rain on it inbetween

rain will make no difference once it has 'skinned' over unless it is actually runing down the wall if there isnt a down pipe etc in place. they are correct this time of year in that leave over night, and scrape next morning theres no issue. as stated by others you cannot put a few mm on at a later date, unless they are proposing to put a thin coat acrylic over it to rectify any colour issues.
rendering over pissed wet blockwork can lead to discolouration once set and lime bloom.

Update on situation:

The contractor admitted the renderers messed up the job by not scraping at the same time. They started scraping some the day they applied it and came back to scrape the next day only to find they were getting colour variartion. Any renderer that knows what they are doing would know that you have to scrape the entire area at the same time to avoid colour variation.

I then spoke with k-rend about my situation whom advised we can apply k-rend on top again but we must use a primer first and then apply moncouche render with minimum application thickness 8mm, scraped back to 6-7mm. Issue was the renderers had already rendered upto the stop beads so the contractor got them to scrape back 6mm to allow for the new top coat render.

The contractor is now looking for another renderer to complete the job. If anyone is interested in doing this and able to provide a quotation please let me know. I am based in Staines.

just about sums up the amount of jokers out there, who think that rendering games a doodle and 'have a go'.
i get so many enquires from the domestic side for putting botched render jobs right.

If he's scraped back 6mm to the bead it'd be interesting to see how far back from the bead theyvecome
