evening all.. advice if possible...

Question 1 when applying a monocouche render to new block work do you still need to apply a scratch coat before top coat?

Question 2 if you need to scratch do you scratch coat with monocouche (colour) rather than normal sand cement?

Question 3 if applying after rend aid been applied is it just one coat application?..

thanks all ;D

only scratch a dubbing out coat when you absolutely have to , never scratch the first coat it'll leave hollows if you scrape back to it and it's a one coat system really mate that second coat needs to be applied when the first is still tacky

nice one nicksey thanks.. ;D

Hand applied mono is two coat any way, just that you go straight over with out the need to let the first coat set, this is were me and nicksey differ, onto new blockwork i give it a hose down,8-10mm coat, rule off,let pick up,devil float then another 8-10mm coat, darby off,no need to try and float the wall, back in the mornin with your h sectiom and nail float, and your laughin.

your first question depends on what blockwork your working to. if your applying onto thermalite block you need give it a coat of rendaid then onto that you put on a mesh which you trowel into the rendaid then give it a scratch. If its normal breeze block then put on as normal.

i use the h section serated edge for ruling then close it in with a spatula. If its in the summer you can I bar it in the afternoon to take off the high spots and finish, in the winter months start puttin on bout 2ish and come back in the mornin to finish

what do you mean by I bar mate have you got a pic or a link cheers

Just a metre length of h mate, i give it a quick scrape with it to show any highes then work out of them, never used a serrated so couldnt say.

just picture a metre long piece of ally, if it was cut through the middle it would look like the letter i, cant explain any different really, looks like a smaller version ov an rsj

how do you use it lads do you hold it flat so both edges are on the wall or on an angle ?

hold it so both edges are on the wall and work off your bead, checking it vertically and horizontally. you should only need 2 give it a light scrape with the pads then cos uv done most ov the work with the i bar

Have a shufftie in the partition fixers skip, loads of i&h,two edges to the wall to scrape for me mate.

one more question.. can you monocouche onto wire? if you can is it 3 coat work.. whats the method. any advice welcome. thanks :)

We've sprayed onto metal lath before, but you can get a decent coat on with the machine, if you putting on manually you'd be better putting a base coat on first to cover the mesh, the trick is dont let your first coat go to stiff before applying the second and make sure the second coat is thick enough to remove 2mm or you will get the dreaded 'ghost rings'
