Is it me slowing down or does Multi finish set quicker since the new bags with plastic inserts came out.
And they split as soon as you go near them. Are British Gypsum aware of this? .

The bags are shite , but the set is still the same for me. Then again I do not plow loads on so not sure.

you have just got to deal with it setting times always varies a bit on diffirent backgrounds but thats the fun of plastering

I aint a fan of fast setting gear. smaller mix and more time in the day spent mixing more gauges. I prefer a slow set like the old plaster finish in the purple bag more on the wall per guage is better for me

defo sets faster in gorilla tubs. had a couple of bathrooms that went off like a shot (but it was a bathroom)........ work harder but your out the door quicker. all part of the game. doesnt help that i never wash out for the second coat. well i do with clean water but then mix my second coat with that even with lab. anything more than two bags and i consider clean for second mix. any of you guys roll like that??

if your havin problems put a couple handfulls of knauff or lafarge dab compound in your mix it will slow it down :RpS_thumbup:

multi will go off quicker in tubs and buckets than on a board. It's cos of the heat generated by the plaster in the bucket is more contained than on a board. The heat from the exothermic reaction of the plaster makes the plaster set quicker. So if you want more time get it out of your bucket and onto a board. And like other people have mentioned on here it'll help save your elbow joint. Less effort involved getting it off a board onto your hawk than fishing it out of a bucket.

If you really want to re***d a set then use cream of tartar. I use about 4 tablespoons for 2 bags. It'll give you a lot longer on a set. but if you haven't sorted your suction out it'll still pull in a lot on the first coat

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah ffs is it gonna make that much difference lol unless you're names spark and there's carpets on the floor it goes bang

Dont laugh spunky I seen some wisk a bucket of plaster to death longer the better they think. Sometimes when you get shite plaster it more to do with the cleaning the vessels at BG for some reason the skim acts strange for a while.

Im using dirty water alot thesedays, its the only way to make money on site, get 3 sets and get away home at a decent time. Youre up against it thesedays! they wont let you start on site until 8am and are locking up at 4! If its cold, you got no chance!

sorry mate im not stalking you lol i am too, tight coat of bonding and skim dirty water 50m of bondings set by 10 would only get one set in otherwise

when i was onsite i was skimmin 4 7oclock because i used to change the barrel in the door so i had the key & unbolt the fence on a morning no body came between my pay day

going back to whisking multi, when learning my boss would hit the roof i didnt use crystal clear water in a perfectly clean bucket. it really does make all the different with setting times and its all good if you have time but when your chasing something and you are feeling the pressure its a right nightmare. he also taught me whisking should never be done for more than 1 mins tops NO LUMPS! if there was any i would usually get them picked out and thrown at me. lol. i once was with a lad who whisked a bucket to death for a good 7-8 mins. i knew what he was doing so i let him carry on so he would learn from his mistake. he basically put the muck on the board and within about 7 mins it started going pretty stiff. he had to start his ceiling all over again :) hahaha

Reckon it makes a difference what bucket you're using to mix up in. If it's only 1 bag in a wide gorilla tub, then that's gonna get lots of air drawn into it. Get a tall bucket to mix one bag up in, innit

on reskims it goes bang...

:rolleyes)

Multi sets faster than ever.
