Hi,

I've been a member on this forum for a while but never posted a thread until now. Just thought I'd share my thoughts on a recent 2 day training course I completed in the application of micro cement. For those of you that are not familiar with the product it is an extremely hard wearing top coat to be applied to floors, walls and worktops/tabletops etc. It is very versatile stuff and can go on almost any surface.

The training was held in Bristol by 'Dimitri Koubi' of 'Koubi Designs' at their studio ( he is French by the way and engaged to a lass from Bristol). The course was for two days and very intensive, Dimitri knows this stuff inside and out and has learned a few tricks of the trade in his 15 years as an applicator. There is a lot learn in two days but it is definitely not rocket science and it is similar to our skill as plasterers. I think the cost of the course will be the best money I have ever invested.

Have a look at the website (google 'koubi design') to see some of his work and various projects Dimitri has done.

I would recommend this course to any one who is looking to expand their skills and hopefully earn some extra money. Microcement definitely has a lot of uses and this course is the real deal. Dimitri and his partner Rachel will look after you during your stay and a complimentary beer and glass of wine with your lunch made the day fly:RpS_biggrin:

I will be doing a few projects around the home before prospecting for work so I will post pics up as it happens.

Any general questions I will try to answer but really you should contact Koubi Design and book in your training now.

Thanks

without being cynical.......................are you Dimitri by any chance........................:RpS_sneaky:

Ha ha I was waiting for that one! :RpS_laugh:. I admit the post may have looked like an advert but I suppose it is in some ways. I was born and raised in Sunderland and that is where I still am. Times are hard for most plasterers up here (not a whiner though so going to do something about it), and I am working for more or less the same daily wage I was 10 year ago but without as many phone calls. I wanted to expand my skills base and while looking around came across this micro cement and also Koubi Designs. I think learning this skill could be a winner because of its versatility. As time goes on I will be posting up pics of my work around the home and then hopefully paid work.

Cheers

SOOOOOOOOO sunderland ehhhh where ? north or south of the water ? cos i can't imagine much call for micro cement in Pennywell or Southwick !!!! so you have got to be casting your net a bit further one would imagine. :RpS_wink:

Whitburn mate but was born and braised in Southwick (aka Suddick). I think that people will pay for something of quality & beauty and it is not so expensive when compared to some tiles ( no grout to clean though, the ladies hate it!). I do plastering work for Granite Transformations who charge about 3 to 4 grand to put an overlay of granite over an exsiting worktop and I have worked in some pretty average estates. So the point I make is it will not be for everyone but for some and not just the well off. I hope so anyhow!!!!!

Oh i know suddick well me fatha was born 40yds away from the Times Inn and yes there used to be cottages there and, me grand fatha was a riveter on the Alexander Bridge and then at Pickie's.

Many a good night in the Times Inn, because of its hidden location lockins were a regular back in the day :flapper: Grew up in Abbay street one of the terraced cottages right opposite the bridge. Hope ya inherited ya grandfatha's red and white blood or are you a barcode???? Used to be a good community spirit down suudick there but like a lot of working class places it has sadly long gone.

Yeah seen that one and looks pretty good. Picked Koubi Design because of £250 cash back against tools and materials and liked the work he had done. Flew to bristol and back from newcastle for £80 easyjet so probably cost less than deisel to yorkshire .

Micro cement is a fantastic product. I've done quite a bit with it. It's strength and versatility make it easy to sell as a product when showing customers

Im going to have a course in micro, not too bothered with the venetian, not sure theres enough work for it, but the micro looks like it could have a bit of work in it, if marketed properly... going to book for january, usually a bit quieter then...

BAR CODE BAR CODE wash ya mouth out i lived on Thompson road for years until about 12 - 13 yr ago. Dunno if he will still live in whitburn or not but went to college in early 80's with a lad from there called Les Wilson, propably been 20 year since i seen him though :RpS_unsure:

The one day course I think would be fine, as long as you come back and experiment/practice on some mdf boards. Sort out a car park near by before you go if your travelling by car/van, its pretty tight down there!!!

Sorry my friend, North Northumberland is full of Maggies but probably the nicest part of the country. Ill ask our lass about Les Wilson, shes a Whitburner. They all seem to know each other, hillbillies!!!

Just had a quick look at your site, some nice pics on the gallery! have you used 3d panels on the pic with the red fire breast??

I just finished Dimitry's 5 day polished plaster course at his workshop in the show room of Koubi design in Bristol , it was super good , pretty intense and you go home each day with a lot to think about and end up with some real knowledge and skills .those guys are really nice and Rachel keeps you stocked up with coffee and biscuits all day and nice lunch with a beer like dustsheet here said.
Brilliant course cant recommend enough which I will do some more when I can work out how to do my own post.
