been using one of these for about 3 months now fcuk me the blade seems stiff has anyone else got one might go back on the mt what you lads an lasses think

They are surely the best all round trowel available in my opinion? Better handle and build quality than mt. love the weighted feel to them. I'm on my second, tragic accident with my first :crying: don't take that long to break in really, if you do a fair amount of rendering etc. Definitely more stiff/sturdy than other trowels especially carbons, they are quite flexible in comparison. @Vincey has a carbon premium, perhaps more give in the blade? I love mine and two other guys I work with have one also.

I've had one a year, use it pretty much on all sand cement work, only skimmed with it a couple times. Cracking for sand cement work, is very rigid, even think it hurt my wrist when I started using it a bit, but it gets softer after it breaks in. Takes an absolute age to break in though, I don't know if I'll bother gettin another one, as I don't know if I can be bothered with the effort to get it decent. Mines was in cracking shape and colleague knocked it off scaffold 3lifts up and it landed on heel so one side is bent like a perma shape and the other side is straight, so that's kina of annoying now. Probably go back to 13x5 mt xtralite again next time if I'm honest. I'll see how I feel when I go to get a new one. No rush though skimming trowel is in good shape and nela is good enough shape for sand cement/exterior work.

True can’t argue with that , funny thing is for me though mate I preferred my nela carbon to my nela premium but you didn’t like the carbon nela as much as the premium, we are both trowel weirdos but I’m wondering if it’s because mine is one of the first premium not the later models , either way they are great trowels and in all honesty I’d be really hard pressed to choice a favourite between the nela and the mt

Either way they are all better than those mt permacrap

They are hard to break in but a great trowel. I gave mine to a local plasterer and he loved it and wont give it back

Know a few lads that swear by the perma shape. I had one, and I thought it was OK, although saying that I in not real panic for another one. Prefer the xtralites.

For what is worth I found nela to be the most uncomfortable trowel I had. Good feel in the hand, carbon steel is better than tyzack, but in the long run fails to make me grab it again. The most used by me are the tyzack, the ones you can buy from the shop nowdays, but my star will be always the vintage. Why they don't do any trowels like this anymore? I am sure even at £100-150 they will sell better than any other trowel.

Main reason I switched over to Nela was I’ve had four or five mt trowels and each one after a while seems to buckle into a dodgy shape? Tyzack did the same aswell, started trying other brands like Refina premium. Become aware of the Nela premium through the forum, and now curry is on the radar aswell. There’s a lot of choice out there now.

Mt will maybe have to improve their standards, to keep with the competition. Although tbh, I've not had any real issues with mt losing shape, that hasn't been done by myself or someone else standing on it, dropping, throwing, or hitting snotters of block walls etc can knock them put of shape, of they did go slightly, they were easy corrected.

I wonder if the blade was a 5 inch width if that would be an improvement regarding flex in the trowel? Personally prefer a narrower blade myself though.

Good solid all round trowel .. like said took a good year for me to break in how i like it even no im sold on the carbon extralite i do miss it. Got a silicone job coming up next couple of weeks so be out to play again.
Definately better than the permashape thats for sure. Bendy shite.

I’ve been using the mediflex. It’s razor sharp now and I seem to be picking it up more than the marshall
