used both these trowels today on a 15ft sq room, half boarded half unibond and skim...
put both coats on with the standard trowel, went on very well. trowelled up with the s/f... the s*p*r*lex is really good, never used the refina but cant see it being any better than the nela, anyone not using the s/f should get one rapido... ( how come no one mentioned them to me before )..lol
the standard 16'' trowel, feels nicely balanced and I like the cork handle, although it is still a handle, and Im sure the composite one is as good... I think the Nela looks a lot better engineered/made than the refina.. the problem with the nela is.. on both edges they have ground them down, i presume this is to have the trowel '' worn in '' but all it does is rip the finish when trowelling up, the refina has a 1'' section ground in the middle of the blade, and the edges are smooth... I tried the refina straight after the nela whilst trowelling up and it didnt come close to ripping the finish... why would anyone want a ground edge ?? going to work with the wet and dry tonite, but maybe nela may consider making the blade same as refina, then there would be no need to rub the edges down.
i was playing around with the s/f and standard nela and using my refina when needed .. applying multi..
so.. I do think the nela standard is a very good trowel, sort the edges out and it would be awesome, the build quality is amazing, second to none infact
the s*p*r*lex Nela.. that is some amazing piece of kit.... buy one now.
