Hi guys, I just found this forum - I don't know much about plastering but I think I need some done. Can someone answer a couple of questions for me?
I've just stripped off a load of woodchip wallpaper and the surface underneath is pretty cracked in places, and has some crumbling holes where the previous owner had put up shelves, etc.
- I steamed off the wallpaper... was that my first mistake?
- do I need to do any more preparation before getting in a plasterer? Any questions I should ask?
- how do I know if it needs replastering or just skimming?
- how much do you think it should cost? (the room is 8' x 8' x 12', and in the Reading area)
- if I get it done at this time of year, will it be too cold and damp to let the plaster set properly?

Cheers,
Chris

Fair enough, I'll ask round. I'm in Caversham / Reading. Just wanted a ballpark figure and anything to watch out for.
Cheers, Chris

- I steamed off the wallpaper... was that my first mistake? Nope This is fine....

- do I need to do any more preparation before getting in a plasterer? Make sure all paper is off and I mean every little bit Any questions I should ask? Nope

- how do I know if it needs replastering or just skimming? Normally just skimming with a bit of patching depends on how shot the backing coat is

- how much do you think it should cost? (the room is 8' x 8' x 12', and in the Reading area) We dont discuss prices on here as there is too much variation and lots of variables

- if I get it done at this time of year, will it be too cold and damp to let the plaster set properly? Depend on your home whether its lived in or not... You will be able to see if its still damp :-)

Good Luck

Danny

Thanks, Danny, that's a big help. I'll go over the walls one more time with a scraper and then get a couple of quotes.
