Member being the operative word...

I'm no spread but I do have a question or two, which hopefully one of you fine folks will be able to set me straight with.

Anyway, computer said "say hi," so this is me saying hi :RpS_thumbsup:.

welcome
you going to ask it then??

I wouldn't have done here tbh, some forums would have people sent round to your house with baseball bats for asking questions in the welcome section. The fact that I'd meet them with an axe or a chainsaw (depending which happens to be closest at the time) is irrelevant.

I think I might have found the answer - search function seems to work reasonably well. Thanks for putting it there (whoever, er, putted it.)

Seeing as you asked though...

I was wondering what the plastering pro's recommend for using around stoves. I found enough input to make what I consider to be an informed (enough) decision.

well we arnt one of those dodgy freaky forums like the others you frequent sorry :RpS_biggrin:

so are you doing the job or are you trying to make sure someone is doing the job right?

Dodgy, freaky forums... either you really have been watching me (that, or you've frequented the same places!) Admit it, weird can be good

Although I do perform some of my own stunts, my brother has been a plasterer (22 years or so) so I'll probably get him to do it, based on the cost of the products and the fact that his finish will be far superior to mine (not to forget that I'll get it done for free if I don't mind waiting 7 or 8 months for him to turn up unannounced in the van saying "get the kettle on then homo, we're plastering your fireplace this morning."

When I looked into appropriate materials for finishing around stoves (some time ago, and prior to asking my brother) I came across Vitcas products, just the ticket. When I asked my bro, he said he hadn't had any issues with sand, lime & cement but said there were proprietary refractory renders/plasters available; I think he said he'd plaster it with whatever the feck I wanted iirc. So I thought I'd check opinion/advice from here (good name for a plasterers forum, I couldn't find a way to argue against my own logic in asking here) before shelling out any coin.

So I'm going to use Vitcas. I'm undecided yet whether or not to use their render (because I'm a tight git.) If it cracks, nobody dies and it isn't a major undertaking to do it again if need be.

welcome. which product is the right one for you then..

I did, in a post I made several hours ago that doesn't seem to have taken. I posted it twice cos I can't help clicking stuff; methinks it's waiting for moderation, which I suppose makes this one a waste of time as it will probably also be queued for moderation.

Lets call it a test and see if it shows up when I post it.

Welcome along mate......

I think you chose a bad day to post.... One sponsor has been heavily moderated on here for years and they managed to get a post on today..... seems to have made a bit of a splash.... LOL

Welcome along - don't be afraid to ask any questions..... but pleased you have used the search function - helpful!
