Since using my new nela 16inch when the walls are dried out the finished look looks inconsistent like streaky bacon there's nowt wrong with it but it does my tits in want it all to dry the same do you think it's the new nela needs wearing a bit arrrrgh

My new one def feels like it needs wearing in a bit,it's not like my old one I could finish with that right out the box but feel this needs a bit of wear and tear first.

I was getting the same......makes skimming bit hits easy.

But the white marks when it dries are frustrating.
I use it to flatten first now then finish with refina.
 
My walls have been ending up like the recently aswell but the trowel i use ive had for years! looks like there is marks in the wall but when you run your hand over them you cant feel anything. Think ive noticed it more since I went on a job another plasterer had started, his walls were a nice uniformed colour when dry.

I dont know why but if people use tatar it dries out alot cleaner looking. Maybe its because they use leas water?
 
If the walls / ceilings smooth who cares about white marks / streaks ... to get a uniform colour with a s*p*r*lex you use literally next to no water to trowel up .. streaks are from too much water / phat imo with a s/f ...
 
When its being skimmed when I first got the trowel.

Drys out not rough but light water shades

The ceiling shows its flat as can be but drying out uneven.

Paints up fine.
Maybe just the heat with getting used to the nela.

Photos after week of using nela.

Got more used to timings with it now.

yep I am the same... very little water
 
I tried smaller set with no water.....just cleaning angles.

They still came through....i think its just the heat.
 
Il get better pics tomorrow madmonk.

Ive started using no pressure at all on final passes..seems to drying better.
 
Ceilings look nice when being skimmed drying out a bit different.

Coat 16" mt mate......
Flatten 16"mt
Rest with 18" supaflex.

Got speedskims spats etc. They just complicate sets.

This is the simple way of skimming for me.
Refina 18" dries out the same consistant shade.
Nela18 " seems to get it extremly flat.

As nela wont dry out consistant shade.
Refina wont get it 100% flat.

Cant have best of both worlds I suppose.

But get 40m hits with both trowels.

I like em both.
We need a REFINELA trowel (20").
 
To be honest madmonk the fuucking state of new build joinery nowadays I ask myself whats the fuuucking point in getting it flat..........stud walls and ceilings are getting worse and worse.

Houses today being built are disgusting.
How people who buy these plots ..site agents ..contract managers dont see the state of walls /ceilings/ angles is beyond me.

Your faakkin right there mate the job I'm doin at the mo not one straight wall all the studs are fuked an twisted but it's always us that have to cover other people's shhhit up
 
Last persimmon house I skimmed.....cheeky arsehole joiner asked me to go tight to the floor.

4" skirting... I made him follow me around 3 story house with a tape and tell me where its not covered.

then got dabbers straight edge showed him every wall and ceiling in plot.
he blamed bad timbers and walked out like a little embarssed girl.

joiners never spoke to me again on that site....shiit sacks.

I use to think that but then if you succumb to that then you become part of the problem... I always try and do the best job I can....
 
This might be a stupid question, but would you buy the same size s*p*r*lex trowel as the trowel you normally use? I have a MT 13" but thinking on going for a nela s*p*r*lex
 
No because I scratch on with a 13 an they don't do a nela 13 I got a 16 nela to cover a larger surface area just for finishing an that's all it's good for
