Hello my name is Rex. I live in the states. I have done construction for about 25 years; mostly remodeling. My wife and I just bought an old Victorian style home. I have never done plaster before. This house has wood lath plaster. I have fixed two rooms, from a botched sand swirl, prior Owner did. Plastering is defiantly an art. I have lots of questions. I should have joined before I started. Well just wanted to give a bit of info and say hello. I hope it OK to join for instructions. Its hard to find good advise. I had local plasters tell me to drywall, or use hot mud.

welcome along musick :RpS_thumbsup: always nice to have a visitor from over the pond on here.

Hello and welcome along Musick, advise in abundance here and luckily we have a seattle based plasterer on the forum called @Loren and i'm sure he will be able to offer best advise for US materials etc.

Hi Rex,
Old wood lath & plaster restoration is my specialty, I just finished replacing a water damaged keenes cement/lime & sand ceiling today.

welcome along where in virginia are you from ive been to the blue ridge mountains a couple of times its a beautiful part of the world

Hello laser. I now live in Portsmouth. I have lived all over va. I grew up in southwest parts of the blue ridge. I miss it, it is beautiful, just no work there.

Welcome friend! :RpS_thumbup:

Hot mud??
it a powder mix here in the states. I guess it is like a mix of plaster & drywall mud. It sets in a short time, but it is sandable. They have different setting times. 5 min to 90 min. It is really called easy sand (then time limit 5, 20, 45, 90). I wouldn't use it to plaster a wall, but I use it for plaster filler.

I do contracting, remodeling. I am not a full time plasterer. But here in the states plaster is not used much. Drywall and mud. Some of the higher class and older homes use plaster. I have an older home. :RpS_laugh:.
