Will be hard as Aussies don't like the poms and taking away their work like Bulgarians.

I'm using The Plasterers Forum Mobile ApptAp!
the Ozys don't like to work just swim Ryan and make your mind up they are either here to steal, beg, claim benefits or work.

Hi guys,
New to Sydney and Aussie plastering.
Could do with some tips on where to find work!
Tell us a bit more about yourself and your situTion some one might be able to help, my mates in Sydney he is a dry liner or as they say in oz a fibrous plasterer.

just came over b4 xmas got a bit of work with handyman renovater including tape and jointing (not plastering!)
been in the game 30 years so anything goes but no experience with Aussie plasters.
any leads would be grateful, cheers

I was doing external rendering there, which is mainly s/c or acrylic and the Lebanese have that pretty much tied up.
I was working for a friend of mine, doing krend but I know he is ok for labour at he moment, but if you get in touch with Him he may know someone who is looking. Get his number from his web site www.colourrenderaustralia.com.au

I thought it was called gyprocing
It is but that's only part of it similar to here where a real plasterer does everything he is called a plasterer but if you saw a plasterer rendering some would say he is a renderer but in fact he is a plasterer. I am doing a rendering job at the minute and the neighbour came over asking what I was doing so I told him and he said But your a plasterer lol plastering is split into to types or let's say you go off in in either direction fibrous or solid, the same in oz if your applying for a visa you say one or the other and you have to prove your skills, a fibrous plasterer is someone who fits dry products ie cornice or plasterboard.

Yeah as Flynntman says you'll either need the aqf3 or to have served an apprenticeship from school and have all the paperwork and slips to back that up unless you can walk in off you partners which would save you some serious ££££

All I can say about plastering in oz is be prepared to start on the mixer again......... not many walk into throwing mud on. Lad I worked for had 2 teams, one for rendering / acrylics and another for 'setting' lime putty. I was lucky to throw straight on but had to fall back mixing when 1 of the labs didn't show . Rendering you'll have to put on at least 70m2 plus load up etc. Don't be fooled by the golden paved streets of oz, you'll find it harder work than here due to the heat.

As for finding work its who you know I found....brickies I knew put me in touch with another firm and the one I walked into id spoken to before so was lucky.... searching the paper or gumtree helps but you'll no doubt see that most firms want at least 1-2 years oz experience ... what you've done here makes no odds over there.... you learn there way from the bottom up.

I miss the weather and beaches for sure but rendering like a madman for $220 a day isn't worth it imo....

Id say try get into acrylics..... loads of money in it

I worked for the lebonesse in Sydney in 2002.they work like dogs and pay **** dollar.only lasted a few months then landed on my feet working for a Greek guy.i was earning 200 back then, although it was 3 bucks to the pound.they are fussy with there finish mind.

Aussie are weird as fibrous don't mix with drywall! They would expect Mike to do drywall if he wanted the visa!
My mate never did it in his life he got his level 2 in dryling through osat and 5 years experience but that door has well and truly been slammed shut.

my nephew been in oz the past 18 months, he was tape jointing uk 10 years , hes working partime for a mainteince company , buts hes making more money advertising on gumtree and working partime ,tacking , sticking , taping and anything else he can get :RpS_thumbup:
