i think its about time schools got kids in to the game like they do in germany not being funny but after the age of thirteen you know school aint for you get them learning a trade its got to be better for the building trade

yup, why the f**k teach some kid religious studies or how to sew when he could be learning a proper trade.

you go to germany they do this in schools and when you are on site they ask your advice as to here where your told by a graduate who knows f**k all

Anyone see the program where the boss went undercover in his own firm pretending to be a new boy. There was one on a construction site. Id give my right arm to have worked for the old foreman there. He really looked out for the workers from young to old.

I was made up for him. They kept him on at the end and actually asked for his input when training up lads. Even the young kid was sound. Just wanted to work.
Probably sacked a week later though!

was that the one where they centred around the young labourer? vaguely remember him doing some work on a school or something? if it was i think i remember watching it

Folk were askin to see me without the shades. Its a snap shot from the press after I'd thrown some scum bag off a skysraper ;)

It was the same one wasnt it. He was flagging and just trying to gain experience?! They gave him an apprenticeship, and it was well deserved.

so what can be done about it? surely with design and technology they can get us in somewhere? i was taught to build a casette holder out of wood and a tiny photo frame out of brass. surely a couple of lessons a week doing something like plastering will benefit the country/government/economy more

hi steve coving where u from ???

no need to apologise mate, i wouldn't want to come from anywhere else. that way i've grown up with the s**t and dont have to fear it ;D

A lot of schools send kids for the last 2 years to college to try a few trades and see if its for them. Only problem with it is that some schools only send the kids who cause them a problem but majority of them are OK

we got a lad every tuesday and thursday for seven weeks, he was a bad lad at school but he was keen as fu.ck and wanted to help! he was better than our apprentice who can't even carry a bag of cement up a scaffold ladder and has got nvq 1 allready despite the fact he can't do fack all!!

yeah they seem to send the naughty kids to get them out of their hair. last time i was on a job with one of them, i threatened to wrap a level around his head. he was about 17 and moaned about everything. didnt want to move bags or boards. didnt want to clean up. he was in my way, i asked him to move and he said f**k off walk round the other way. after i gave him the option of moving or having a stabila impaled in his face we never saw him again

Like apprentice said its already being done and its not just for bad kids my mates son done it for the last year of school tried every trade, I had my nephew with me a few years ago he was considered a bad kid. He done mechanics and didnt like it but they didnt have a backup plan for it not working so there was nobody to teach him on the days he was supposed to be at the mechanics and the same old problem always rears its head "im not workin for f**k all" plus H&S messes alot of it up coz your not allowed anywhere near a site under 16 and under 18 your only allowed to do some things on site but to be honest kids can be stupid and are very nieve.

The education system is set up as a purely academic entity, where as the majority of people leave school and do non academic jobs.

Its ridiculous. Its like making kids learn bricklaying from the age of 5 untill 16, then sending them out into the world.
