Must been to quote a job and a couple of the rooms are artex and horribly nicotine stained....literally orange with patches of white where pictures and stuff used to hang....I've read that the stains can bleed through the skim.....what's the best way to seal it to prevent any bleeding through. Cheers

Overboard

It'll never skim nice. Even with a decent bonding agent it'll skim weird. Best overboarding it. Whatever you do don't try and glue and skim. The tar and s**t from the smoke makes the glue go yellow and gloopy and the skim won't go off properly.

Done loads. Roll a coat on cover stain on. Allow 2 full days to dry then skim. I would seal with gardz or a thin artex sealer when plaster is dry. 1 coat of coverstain if needed if you see anything staining through, then emulsion. On complete houses I used to Dec out with alkaline primer, 2 coats on walls, ceilings and woodwork. Needs a few days to dry though, but that works out cheaper on large areas. Over board is another option as others have said. You need to make that call

the artex is proper thick anyway so think i'll qoute to dab new boards on it then skim....it's really grim:(

Hate hate hate those jobs... I don't think I would do them now.... turn my stomach some of the ones I have been to in the past

I wouldn't even be confident of adhesive over that shite. Best micro first. Then dab. Just my opinion.

Rip them down and go again to be 100% I think micro would be a risk if it is that bad

Yeah true. I'd rather go down that route but I'd almost guarantee that's not in the budget.

score and micro maybe?

overboard for me or not bother... seems harsh but its either done right or it is wrong :D

It might be ok with Micro and what not but if its not I doubt they are going to pay to put it right so you will be out of pocket :D
