Theres been alot of negativity on the forum recently with people unhappy with rates, customers canceling, not getting paid etc etc, so thought id share a happy story.

Went to price a rough casting job a few weeks ago, got a yes straight away, none of this getting another 6 prices or will you take money off for cash. I asked for £400 upfront to cover for materials. absolutely no argument whatsoever.
Half way thru the job i asked for another installment which was paid straight in to my bank within minutes of asking. The job was held up for a few days due to weather, no phone calls asking where i am or when ill be back. When i did finish it the customer was not home, thought i would have to go for another visit to collect money (job was about a 60 mile round trip) but no! I got a text that night saying how happy she was with the job and that she had transferred the remaining balance into my account!

To top it all off, the kettle was on as soon as she seen the van pull into the drive way!

What a difference having a nice hassle free customer makes, even found myself whistling in the morning on the way to the job!

It should be this way all the time ,good tradespeople ,good rates, decent customers ...
that's why I generally work for regulars, finished one today ,£4500 quoted, asked me,how much will it be ,I said around £6500. He said invoice and I will sort a cheque out ,doingwork for these 15 yrs odd, extra due to extras and materials..

Yeah working with the same tradesmen is def a big bonus, you learn how each other work and work better together. Around 50% of my work is with regulars the other half word of mouth or finding me in the phonebook. Doing domestics your people skills are just as important as your plastering skills

Have one customer who is a regular who allocates the top shelf in her fridge to us every time we are there with a different cake on it every day :)

I hope you waited until you were in the van, or at least out of earshot of your other half.
"You sound happy these days."
"Yeah, the customer's spot on."
"Is she. Is she really."

Good stuff. I'm getting bored of the moaning there's two sides to everything. I priced a job up earlier put an extra £200 on as I'd done work previous and I'm really busy. Not an eyelid was batted he smiled and shook my hand and said he'll get some bacon in :)

I managed to bag myself a girlfriend and a daughter all because plastered her kitchen 14 years ago!not even the bedroom lol!
