Hi all...been a spread for past 15 years or so, but had to diversify in the past few years due to lack of plastering work and a whole lot of numptys charging peanuts for sh1te work (pricing us out!)

Cheers chaps! (and dare I say chapesses....theres a female spread around here...van signed up etc....nothing wrong wi that I guess...)

Beader, I took on fitting bathrooms to bring in the bacon when plastering was quiet.

Good for you , its handy to have other skills, more so when they can be used in conjunction with a main trade but as things just seem to be getting worse work wise i find that you have to cast your net even further now there is so much competition for plastering jobs .

There lies the dilemma.catch22.we must diversefy.do other peoples jobs to survive.as others do when they undercut plasterers to do jobs an the circle goes on.fair play to you.i do driving an 7.5 ton to get by but becauce so many of us jump on that now s**t money plus greedy agenciesvagain!!!!

Fair point made by asb but there are having stings to your bow and the other side that is the coursers and the chancers who are jumping on the band wagon . nothing wrong with being able to cut and fix a few bits of skirting after you have re plastered a room or even giving the walls a coat of paint but i my self would never go around trading as a carpenter or decorator . the building trade is changing at a very fast rate and you have to do what you can to get by but you must always know your limits and maintain your standards and do a good job.
