morning chaps
am boarding over an existing ceiling. i wil srew the board to the joists ,but on 1 side of the room there is a stud wall & no joist to fix to. the nearest joist to the wall is 300mm away. should i just use board adhesive to stick the edge of the board ? or has anyone got a better idea with some sort of mechanical fixing??

Gripfill or pinkgrip would be ok just prop upthe board to support the adhesive till dry
cheers church will the board sit flatter with these products?

personally I would cut out the old board and put noggings in screw the old boards back up and overboard like normal, using gripfill is a bit of a bodge job, its always best to do a job to the best you can without cutting corners.

That sounds a good way . only thing is i can only fix to one joist coz the other ones behind the stud wall suppose iwould fix one end and just wedge the nogging in as tight as possible???

if the joists are running that way then yes wedge the noggings in as tight as you can every 300

i would go down the sticks like s**t route unless you can get some extra cash out of the customer to stick in all new noggins, otherwise a ball ache for no £££

fix a piece of wood over the top of stud wall so it over hangs by 2'' on both sides of stud and fix board to that. Should be same height if wall errected right ;)

m8 problems like this are common and the best way to get over them are usually the simplest, do as church says and simply stick it up with drywall or gripfill and prop it up 1 handboard full of gear will do the job even expanding foam would work for something like this
