I'm doing a garage conversion to a room and the plasterboard ceiling has been up for years unskimmed and a quarter of it has been painted with emulsion.
I'm going to skimm it but my experience with old plasterboard is that the plaster will dry quick and this ceiling is approx 30m2! Also the bit that is painted!
I was thinking of giving it a coat of bond-it then skimming? Any other suggestions?

In my experience pva was never enuff to hold back the suction, not unless you keep caning and caning it with the stuff ,so just go wiv one coat of thistle bond it or the like, but I would personally re board ,the paper on the existing board will I guarantee delaminate from the p/board core in places once you start plastering,at least the gritty stuff holds back moisture ,so if the paper dosent blow whilst putting the grit on you've got half a chance.

Can you skim same day still, sadly I have used ,t,b but can't remember , it's my age, use pva for everything even in my tea

I've got plenty of bond it!
And plenty of plastering in this garage to do so bond it in the morning tomorrow, tape and bead the rest of the place. And do a small set in the afternoon. Day planned!

Takes a long time to dry, esp this time of year.

WBA or knalf bentokontak 2-4 hours then skim.
I used betorkontact last week ,there's no way I would plaster after 2/3/4 hours , although might be touch dry I'd be wary that it would hold the weight of plaster ,not aving a pop Carlos just my thought

Pva twice, tight coat of bonding ( mixed with multi), take an hour to do, hour/2 to go off. Nice easy ceiling to skim :RpS_thumbup:
