An old photo of some plasterers doing a house near Preston.

what year was it, i love history. my father inlaw was harry's patch apprentice as a plumber. he said harry never said much about the war but he did say that you could sit there for hours listening to him telling storys

I think we should all turn up to work tomorrow dressed like that. How funny would that be?
The chap in the window must be the boss as he has a pocket watch so must be able to tell the time.
If any body has photoshop, can they give the operatives some high-vis, hard hats, gloves and goggles?

i'd go to my wedding dressed like that .....did they dress up smartly just for the photo or did they always dress like that..............or did they just have one pair of clothes ???

That's how they dressed. It's like us turning up in jeans and a t-shirt. I've heard stories of Irish construction workers, that used to work the week, and on Friday go out and buy a new suit to go out in, and then wear it all the following week to work. When I started work in the early 80's, you would get the odd old bloke turn up on site in a shirt & tie.

nice one...
and back in the day when lime was everywhere...
and goggles hadnt even been invented... let alone specified...

Tony, you started work well before the early eighties.

I know! I was re-pointing the front of some old cottages for a builder during my summer holidays in 1979 when I was 14

;D ;D....he's just out of shot mate......you can nearly see his hand pulling that bit of string on the lunchbox

no goggles and no gloves... lunchboxes arent fireproof, the scaffold is unsafe, they'd be off site in a flash...
