Ever think to yourself the next one is going to be it,the big one ,the one with the gravy, the cream ,or that sombody out there is getting a really bad service and will pay any kind of money for good work and realiable tradesmen. It seems these days especially when things are tight and everyone is cutting each others throat for the sniff of a job that it is important to keep chugging along and if the thought of the next big job or more money motivates you to keep plastering, well thats ok,because now most of all its whatever gets you through, and remember feeling used, abused, rode, lashed and raped is all part of being a plasterer .Be proud of it.We all have to turn tricks for money.Just dont be a two bit h00ker.

the arse fell out of this trade when dry lining came in and floating went out.

now alot of people se it as semi skilled

Having done any devil floating in years.Just got a boxing club to do with 200mtrs of it,its what plastering is all about, nothing better than skimming over sand and cement, ahhh

even at british aerospace they work to tolerances... +/- 3 thou, whatever... or hundredths of a mil (or thousands of a mil for those who still call a 'thou' a 'thousands of an inch')...

no such thing as zero tolerance...

'them were the days' when you could just fire it on and didnt have some snotty nosed, college educated, 'never picked a tool up in his f'ckin life', T W A T, tellin you that he's 'not going to accept your work based on 'wot it ses in his college notes'

British standards give a tolerance of + or - 3mm in 1800 out of plumb and in all honesty college is 1 of the few places that you will learn to float and set now.

In the 2nd year at college students have to do a practical task in a bay (3 sided room) which measures 2.5m x 3.5m and 2.3m high with the back wall having a window reveal in.

Task 1 - s&c 1 wall fix bell cast bead and form an external angle on a pier that is squareand rub up to a plain faced finished.

Task 2 - fix a/beads to window, plumb & square float and set wall and reveals.

Task 3 - D&D wall and pier and skim.

Task 4 - board and skim ceiling

Task 5 - Screed floor

Task 6- Make template run reverse mould and take casts. Fix cornice to include 2 internal angles and 1 external angle.

All of this has to be done in a set time, how long do you think it would take you?
