Got a job in an old stone construction house. As in most of these the lime plaster has blown in places.Customer wants to cut out and patch bad areas.Thought i would S&C hacked off areas to bring out roughly level in all areas then bond over entire wall and one coat.My reason for using one coat as opposed to multi is that the walls are so far out off true you have to see it to believe it,and the customer wants the walls i am doing to match the roughish finish of the existing.
What do you think
Cheers

lime isnt my area but id say youve got the choice of traditional lime from backing coat to finish or just render and skim...
dunno about render, THEN bonding THEN 1 coat? unless youre thinking 1 coat will look crap and that'll match the existing?
try using knauf finish if your used to multi...?
and leave the straight edge in the van?

Personaly ide go the right way and do it in Lime morter but if the guy wont pay i would say bonding is out of the question as it will attract any damp, sand and cement is to hard and will not be compatible with what you are patching into and will eventualy fail, just recently i thought ide found the answer with one coat for this kind of work but now getting probs with efforesence with it so wont be using it again for this kind of work myself ime back with Lime bit dearer time wise but you wont get a call back for a 100 years.

Have you ever tried a gypsum product called dri-coat, like the limelite from tarmac. just used 130 bags of it(dri-coat), very good for damp after a dampcoarse. You could use that as scratch coat and then use your one coat.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm........you can see the dilema i find myself in.Straight edge will have to be left in the and do it freehand
