Hi Guys

Looking for a bit of advice. I'm a plumber who's half decent at skimming with multi-finish on plasterboard in my own home only. Have been roped into fitting new bathroom for my sis and offered to try to tidy walls up a bit. Big mistake.

On removing the bath and tiles found that the wall behind is what I've since discovered is called paramount or egg box wall. The other walls are painted plaster on breezeblock.

My question is the best way to prepare for skimming as I have only ever plastered PB. I don't think the paramount wall is damaged too much as the wall was painted underneath the tiles.

Q1 Should I leave well alone (not bother over boarding) and just tile it again, scratching and sanding the surface first?

The other walls were quite bad and painted to a shiny finish so I have chipped the top surface off (painful ) which has left the exposed render.

Q2 How should I treat the exposed undercoat to control suction in readiness for skimming ?

New to the forum have found it really helpful.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Stick to what you know, re board it and skim that.

with out pics its hard to tell you for deffo

now get back to plumbing :RpS_biggrin:

Cant really overboard cos the room is just big enough for bathroom. Not sure from research whether its advisable to overboard paramount anyway. Just need info on how to prepare walls where I have chipped paint / topcoat off leaving lumpy undercoat.
PVA it or thistlebond ? never done it.

Don't worry wont fall for it again

Thanks flynnyman will do that on the solid walls.
Gonna leave the eggbox wall alone, bondit and tile as before. Was ok before so should be again.

Agree ideally would replace the whole lot with proper stud wall, but trying to save her work not create it. Poor method of construction, cheap I suppose.

Thanks for comments
