Options for rendering underside of steel rsj

Hi

My customer has asked if I could render an external rsj. Dodgy builder left it exposed.

I'm thinking cement board followed by maybe 8mm of monocouche but not too sure how to attach it.

Grab adhesive ? Drill and fix ?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I don't mate but it's an rsj which has been blocked up either side and rendered. The underside is exposed and rusting.

My client has been done over massively by the builder who has literally done a runner so I want to try and help him.

I was leaning towards 8mm to save weight as it's going against gravity.

I guess I'll just have to paint it for him?

There's going to be a lot of expansion and contraction going on if it's a decent length RSJ, sticking anything directly to them is risky IMO.

Agreed. Ill be offering him a good paint or possible parex maite with mesh. Thanks guys

Sticking anything to a rusty anything is going to be iffy. Someones going to get injured if it drops off so you gotta be sure.

I'd clear the rust, treat the steel with a zinc paint then either PAT nail or self drill something to the steel.
The something might be riblath or battens for cladding it.
