Paint or plaster ??

Evening Gents ( and possibly ladies )

Hope someone can help with the following - I've been commisioned to plaster several lobbies at a block of flats and the walls have been painted with a textured paint - Its coarser than a Sandtex (its the only one I know) and I would say the 'bits' in the paint are about 2-3 mm round and spaced at roughly 10mm apart.

There is a patch on the walls (about 2 feet wide by 4 feet tall) that is perfectly smooth and I have been asked to match this in with the existing walls

I have told the management committee that this is a job for the decorators as I dont know of a plaster that could match this finish - Am I right or is there something out there that could match this textured finish - Maybe a multi finish / bonding coat mix ???

Any advice greatly received

i think that it is called portaflek and is a type of paint that is sprayed on? you could try to texture it a bit, it would not stand out so much, ma be a drop of wet skim then dip a damp sponge stipple over it see how it looks, the maybe soften it of with a light wet brush just be for it sets. a repair to a textured surface you will always be able to see the repair, but when painted it will look better than just left flat finish.

fook me i might be miles out here but is it floated tyrolean ?

OK, change of plan folks,

Have persuaded the powers that be that matching a textured finish will always stand out no matter how good you are - So now i've been asked the skim over the whole lot - Its quite a shiny texture, but nothing that 2 coats of multi wont cover - I want to avoid a backing plaster first so was just going to use 2 coats of pva and a wing and a prayer - Any other suggestions ??

Cheers Flaz,

Never used owt but PVA - Is Gyp Bond water soluble, ie do I mix it like PVA or is it striaght out of a tub ?? And is it readily available at the usual outlets ?

Straight out of the tub mate, Gypbond needs 24hrs before you skim on top of it but Wickes is 2 hrs.
