we took on a job at a regular customers house a few weeks ago, they wanted all the woodwork in the H/S/L stripped off so they could clear varnish it. so i let the lab lose with a heat gun for a few days. took 5 days to strip! then it took 3 days to sand varnish layer off and get a smooth finish! i dint even think about using nitromors, but even that stuff is mess and hard work to get a smooth finish on the woodword. iv looked online and there are people who specialize in this, i can see how now. best left to some1 who does it all the time! must be a nack to it! here are a few pics of what we(he) been doin!

still got a bit to go might of been better to advise the customer to replace spindles and architrave, its a lot quicker looks better and might be a similar price plus if your gonna skim them panels and the walls that would of been easier.

i know, well i dont do any woodwork my self and its what they asked for so fort we will have a go.but now they want it bk in eggshell! could have givin it a good rub down!

also them pannels are timber to so they will just get some paint on um.

agreed....
tis a peice of p'ss to replace archtrave, dado's spindles, even supply and hang a new front door..
although they never look the same as stripped wood when re stained...
but then again, the stripped wood aint gonna look all that anyway and theyll prolly end up goin for a dark stain in the end..
replacing handrails aint that hard either...
all gotta have a go once though to appreciate the ease of replacing like for like...

having just seen your last reply....
did you get paid for stripping everything?

yea i put a price to strip down a price 2 now apply 1 prime coat 2x under coat 1 x top coat!

also chirs u are a master builder! easy to hang a door! my living room handle has been of 3 years now!

jobs like this need someone wih this ind of experience though mate, its the service i offer...
i got asked to strip a load of doors (nothing special, just knoty pine doors been painted) and door liners...
it was much cheaper and quicker to rip the lot out and replace em with new, 2'6" door liner - £10-£12 wickes, clear pine 2'6 x 6'6" howdens, 2 hours per door ripped out, fitted and stained..
same score with all the archtraves and skirtings...

wish i was that specialised, that sort of thing i leave to those guys...
my stuff is just general modern kind of thing, nothing too difficult but does take an element of experience...
I used to do alright out of general refurb work, doesnt seem to be as much money in it these days, lots of people seem to expect everything far to cheap, and thats coming from me! prolly one of the cheapest tradesmen in my area!

nightmare stinking horrible job,i have got a sanding pad on a little grinder before on this type of stuff alot quicker but gotta be careful not to knock the s**t out of it,its a bit dusty aswell!
