Guys what is your take on why this happens. Pva ceiling tight skim of bonding then it all bubbles and you have to then scrape the lot off.now this has only happened a few times but when it does it happen it seems to be on taped plasterboard ceilings , my theory is it aint artex but joint cement or other compound they have used .it makes one hell of a mess.when speaking to a neighbour on job he said same thing happened in his house when plasterer did his ceilings. Its an issue i cant tell customer exact cause of this as I'm only
Guessing.

When you pva it, you should see if it pulls in or drips from the ceiling, artex is a generic term for lots of products, the pva soaks in and weakens the plaster , the bonding is too heavy for the strength f plaster,it happened to,most plasterers at some stage in the refurb world, very annoying,

lots of times when im skimming artex its starts blistering and sounds like rice krispies. i assume its the finish reacting with the artex but by the end of the set they have flattened out

Have got to say i must be extremely lucky cos i have never had this happen to me yet !!! But would i be right to say it would also depend on the type of paint that has been applied to the artex ? if it has only ever had matt paint applied would it not be more likely to react with the wet plaster being applied where as vynil silk would provide more of a barrier ?

You would need alab and scientists to have all the answers, basically going over anything that has been done before we are aiming in the dark, even going over old skimmed walls can go wrong.but saying that lots of plasterers would plaster over sheep nailed to the wall and not notice.

not sure of the science behind it marra but i now only use blue grit if the ceiling has silk paint on it. it tends to happen more if im skimming that roll on artex texture shite

I know the crap your talking about arti polycell used to make a type of it and i try to get as much of it off as i can with a big long handled wall paper scraper.

This 'new' bonding is ****
if u Pva over artex it re activates if and makes it go soft. I always bond it 1st and let bonding harden on the artex then skim. Occasionally get that ricekrispy effect.

if u Pva over that polyripple stuff it delaminates and peels off in sheets very easily. Then just Pva old ceiling and skim it :RpS_thumbup:

overboarding better but no one wants to pay for it

Yes I 95% of the time skim with bonding first regardless of thickness of pattern.so that is solid..this multi finish over artex is too risky for me..

I always overboard. Just tell them "maybe you can't afford it"

The insult often gets them digging deeper into their pockets :RpS_thumbup:

Sneaky *******, no wonder the herons can't hear you coming. :RpS_lol:

Great piece of reverse psychology though, might use that myself.

The trouble with artex is it depends on how it was applied, some guys were banging it up on dusty ceilings, so trying to plaster it your on a hiding to nowhere...

That's more like it dusty ceilings. have a ceiling to do and customer scraped the lot of. painted artex of over 25 years since application. the taped joints are solid.he said it come off market bother.
