Just finished a Re-Skim on 3 bed house and the customer has asked me to quote for painting it all.
Living Room,Dining Room,Kitchen,3 x Beds,HSL,Bathroom and customer will be supplying materials.
I have read before that some of you also carry out painting as part of your service and was after some advice on what to quote.
I am fairly confident with painting and decorating(had plenty of practice at home over the years)

Cheers

Work out how many days you think it'll take you,
then multiply that with your day rate, plus a bit more for good luck ;D

I smash out 3 bed semi's on my own in 5 maybe 6 days. This includes emulsion ceilings walls and gloss work to doors skirts architraves etc etc inc preparation and all paint etc £1000 ,maybe more if complex or lots of little romms off( if the house is empty) clear rooms and floors.
Now if the house has furniture and carpets that need moving around and respected and you need to paint upto them on gloss work £1400 is a fair price 6-7 days.
This is only a guide.but you wont go far wrong with these prices.IF YOU CAN PAINT.
Paint first with high opacity paint in white,no need to dilute 45 litres will do the whole house then usual colour on top.I use leyland paint the chepest and top quality trade paint on the market!!

iv justed skimmed 2 bedrooms(4walls no ceiling ) at £390 EACH incliding materials days work each.

and justed priced the painting of them at £370 EACH they supply paint. will take me 2 days as wells

easy money IMO

day 1 miss coat rubback wood work and under coat it

day 2 two coats of coulour and gloss up job done!

yea i will paint the ceilings im not that harsh lol but there is good easy money to make.. not far of the price 2 skim a room?

Oasis.Get it while you can mate, becuase at that price your far to expensive "seriously".
Only a fool would pay £740 labour only to paint 2 rooms.Which is really one days work maybe 1.5.
I painted a clear 2 bed semi top to bottom for £850 in magnolia 3 month ago in 4 days with out breaking a sweat and the lady told me i was dearer than 2 others that quoted but she liked me.
good luck to you though mate if you can get that much.
A good painter is £100 a day MAX there not worth more than that. And you gotta be good to get that !!!!

Skimmin you say your getting £200 a day, fair play!

£850 4 days
£1000 5 days
£1400 7 days

is this price including all materials?
What hours do you work?
& do you have breaks in the day?

My mate is on £120 a day painting & decorating & he doesn't have to kill himself for it,
he works for solicitors, barristers etc.
I also know lots of painters on between £100-£120 a day on firms, insurance work, more £s if they work away etc.
But there's more on a lot less.

i no its a lil bit expensive but we do a good job and give a good clean tidy service and work in nice houses, it is 2 days work for 1 man but you cant go charging day rates as a price otherwise you will never make much money? IMO i have a painter i pay £80 a day quite cheap but hes OK i have to snag his work sometimes but say on that job i charged £120 a day there is no room to make good money. i could go there with my £40 a day lab get him to set up sheets ,rub down ect i could paint it all my self for a nice lil profit or get my painter in and take a smaller income from it.

i see why if your on your own or maybe dont allways have a full days work, but i have a lot of running cost to pay i quote jobs in my own time i run around anytime im not working so i make sure i make more than a day rate, i all i wanted was a day rate i could go work for a builder, no hassle and no quoting or running around stress free! lol

i did used to quote by day rate but i found out i was the one losssing out by doing all this extra effort to get the money i was earning any how?

and also its good to be busy as you can hit a few high prices in and it doesn't matter if you don't get them :-)

did any of that make sence lol

as always ah well ,, some people work for diffrent rates. i no a mate in the town next door he will do any plastering for £90 A DAY ?

i know a bloke who dashed the front of a house for hundred quid, on his own. he's not that good at skimming but we always give him the dashing work we get. some people are happy to earn beer money and thats it.

Nisus all my work is inc materials.I get great discounts on paint from my local paint shop.
Obviously i make money on the materials also where i can.
I work for between £100 to £185 a day dependent on what done.I.e painting £100 ish plastering £120-£150 kithcen and bathromm instals or plumbing £185+.
i do all kinds of work not just plastering!!!
My point is a good painter is worth £100(one that just white washes or emulsions) and a good painter decorator is worth £120 (one that can hang expensive papers and cloths to ceilings and walls fast to a top quality finnish).
Plasters ,sparkys ,plumbers worth more.Well people (customers ) have to pay more for these trades.

So if you went painting for a week, you'd charge £500, and if you went plastering you'd charge £750?
With you obviously being a multi-tader, and your customers benefiting from only having to get in one person, who hopefully carries out all of his disciplines to a good standard, why not charge the same rate no matter what you are doing?

Tony..my prices are not set in stone. But what im saying is i can get AND DO GET £200 for swapping a bathroom suite toilet bath and sink labour only that is 4 to 8 hrs work dependent on what is being fitted in .i could skim 4x4 terrace room with lid in 6-8 hrs and probably charge £200-250 labour only
BUT IF THEY WANTED ME TO PAINT IT AND I WANTED £200 -£300 albour only THEYD GO ELSEWHERE OR PAINT IT THEM SELVES.you can get a painter for £80 that can do a decent job its not as skilled as say plumbing or plastering.Im not knocking painters either and some that do quality work can get good money but overall the big picture says notso mate.
im just trying to say some trades are more profitable than others.
Surely you can understand what im trying tro say???
