hi guys thinking on doing a course in part p electrical. save paying a spark when ripping down ceilings, putting spotlights in drop down ceilings etc. £400 what do you's think? waste of money or worth doing?? if caught doing electrical work without it its a 5 grand fine!! do you guys do bits of electrical work or leave it to the sparks?

£400 well spent I reckon. You can charge extra for doing the sparkying so you'll recoup your course fee no problem, and you'll probably keep your tails short too.

certain things dont come under part P ie changing light fittings ;)

I have a nick name by the guys I worked with when I was younger and that is FLASH!

For that reason I no longer touch electrics!

Danny

PS money well spent I think

I read somewhere that on completing your part p, or par pee as my mum calls it, you have 5 years to become a qualified sparks(but I may be wronge). Also check that the latest edition isn't comming out soon, cos you'd be better doing that one.

Ha ha....That's what i use to get called by my brothers mates when i was on the scrim on sites...

You also need 17th edition wiring regs mate, actually thats all you need to certify ur own work.
I paid just under £5000 to do the full scope electrical course and im now a bout a 3rd the way through it.Like you im sick of waiting around for sparkys to turn up and then charge me a fortune.
only plastering ill be doing in 2 years time will be patching my own chases,im getting to old for this game!!

Yep, My girlfriends dad is a spark (retired) He has made some nice cash and is still fit enough for a round of golf!

I was told not to retire tired... I am planning it!

I still get called flash....lol
