S a plastering

Private Member
a mate of mine has a inch gap appeared from the string of the stairs ive asked him to bond it up flush then i was going to scrim over the plasterboard edge then grind it back into the wall is this the best option or do you do it different way otherwise this cracking is goin to reapear if its not scrimmed god i hate plasterboard

gotta wonder why an inch gap suddenly appeared? stairs fixed proper?

i'd go with hardwall though, maybe shove a bit of 1/4 inch ply on top of the stringer, hardwall the gap, let it go off a bit and pull the ply out, keep the hardwall of the bouncy stringer sort of thing, then caulk the gap up?

i see what ya mean chris but its a newbuilt flat they have not plasterboarded down to the string in one area its about 3ft long then a bit further down about a 1ft long they have just filled it with finish now its all breakin away so the plasterboad is now a inch higher up the wall from the string

Just thinking outside the box , what if you cut back. Them foam filled the gap this will not give, when dry cut foam back cut tape to suit the gap and skim.
You could also try caulking mixed with fillar this is not bad for movement or pva with fillar.

if thats all it is mate just hardwall it and skim it...
done loads of patches to dabbed walls with hardwall, comes up a treat and doesnt crack...
things like holes where the front door handle's swung round and hit the board, left a big hole.. hardwall cures it... same with 'anger' holes.. :rolleyes)
nice peice of thin quad along the top would finish it, timber innit, always get a hair crack along the corner... or just a caulk line...
