Got to brick up a small fireplace for a friend and hardwall/multi it. The sides and top edges of the fireplace opening are formed with angle beads. Would you guys recommend hacking the beads out to create an uneven edge so the new plaster blends in better, or should I leave them in and just scrim the joints before blending the skim in?

Ideally I'd re-skim the whole wall, but I don't think he'll go for that. I just want to make sure it doesn't hairline crack in future and that the patch blends in as well as possible.

i'm doing exactly the same job thursday, told them i'd patch it but theres a chance it will crack. and that i'd prefer to skim the whole chimney breast, they wouldn't listen so i'm just going to hardwall it, and skim it as it is.

what you should do is tooth out the brickwork this way you wont get straight mortar joints and when floated out cut back around edges of floating for skim to blend take the beads off to do this and if there is a small lintel on top edge put some eml in top bed of mortar
