Hi people , i have been asked to price a rendering job to strip old render and rerender an exterior wall , the problem is i need a scaffold which will have to be over the pavement and probably onto the road as the pavement is only 3ft wide, i have read that i or the scafolder needs to obtain a license and that i will need £10,000000 worth of plb, has anyone had any experience of this or know the procedure of appling for a license

The licence will be a streetworks one also know as slag training- signing lighting and guarding. The reason being if its an obstruction in the road you'd need the correct signage and or a traffic management plan/system. Itd be a lot simpler to call a firm like LUX if you do need all that as all responsibility is on them then but it'd be really expensive.

It'd be one of them jobs you wish you'd not taken on i'd say

Your scaffolder should know the ins and outs of it. Pain in the arse though like thebearbeef says. You'll need the new 2015 approved list of things to shout at pedestrians as well.

hhhmm seems like a lot of hassle to me i might just ask the customer to sort it out , if they dont like it they can get someone else i suppose , am getting to old for this crap now anyhow i think its time to go tiling

As said above. Avoid!

It is not only the hassle for the scaffolder but you will have risks yourself.

Ive done a few of these.

Your scaffolder will take care of permits for the scaffold.

I usually get a parking suspension where im working. Cost bout 80quid for 2 weeks. That way i pinn plywood to the scaffold and netting so no debris goes flying and the parking suspension area for pedestrians

Doing one at the moment on a street in Ripon city centre, the scaffold company is liable for any scaffold issue,Ie permit etc, your liable for dust etc, so I've had to fully mesh it etc. Not a traffic light system , just on pavement, priced it high and won it, price it accordingly for hassle.
