pebble dash

hello . do you have to be precise on render finish when applying pebble dash or can you just frow it up and level with eye
 
The flatter you get the butter coat the better really , if you get the time rule off the scratch coat do so , the finished job will look a lot better especially with a spar
 
Your mortar has to be good stuff not to thin or thick lay it on with a skimming trowel , make sure to damping wall first then stand back a bit and flick pebbles on with a dashing scoop. not as easy as it looks mate takes time to perfect.
 
Trick with pebble dash is kill all the suction in the scratch coat or the stones will bounce out and you get bald patches
 
The flatter your dash receiver the better mate , nothin worse when the sun shines down a gable and you can se the shadows off hollows and trowel lines , if you haven't dashed before be carefull what you take on cos it's so easy to get wrong , been dashin on off for thirty years an still learnin, especialy now with the polymer modified receivers etc
 
You could have problems if you havn't done it before mate, Try and keep your top coat nice and flat it makes for a better finish.
