Peeling, tearing? Explain

Ok can you explain what you mean by peeling & tearing on skim & at what stage does it occur?
And are you on about board or multi?

The only thing I can think of is you are using too much water too late when trowelling creating excess fat
then basically you are spreading this over the top of the 2nd coat as you are trowelling, then when doing your last trowel it peels the fat off in certain areas maybe fat filled hollows?
And as for tearing is this on overskims?
I could imagine it tearing a bit if on a too thick pva mix, but not on boards?

I think it must defo be BG's fault ;D

But never had any probs like the above though, only quick setting multi but managed to control it ok with no probs.

I just feel like I'm missing out on this peeling & tearing buisness & especially when it goes a bit chewy ;D
 
If you lay-in with the same muck, and you've wet the muck up a bit to make it spreadable more easily, and then try to trowel it to perfection, its likely to peal - i.e. the moody 2nd coat fails to bond properly.

that's the only time i've encountered it and consequently don't do it...
