I have an 1890’s solid wall house with a rendering problem. Although the roughcast rendering appears solid I believe that its sand/cement and is trapping water which appears on the inside wall damaging the decoration.

My question is what does everybody use these days to render a solid brick wall, surely not everyone goes to the expense of lime? Can anyone recommend one of these new products which are supposedly breathable and come in a colour? How much per m sq do these materials work out to be?
Also, are there any alternatives to fully removing the render which does not appear to be debonding?

Thanks in advance…….

Welcome to the forum and where abouts are you? One of the lads on here may be able to nip round and advise :RpS_thumbup:

Is it painted? I usually find that water get behind the paint somehow and can't get out. Another theory is condensation which is common on solid walls.

An insulated render system will improve matters no end. As for breath ability then most modern renders are but you will still need a combination of heating, ventilation and insulation.

For the record there isnt many who knows rendering systems better than @Rigsby :RpS_thumbup:
