plaster cracking around wood burner

Hi - I recently fitted a new wood burner after ripping out an old gas fireplace. Since plastering and painting, as you can see from the picture its badly cracked. I’m assuming rising damp? Any ideas or tips on how to tackle this would be great.

You shouldn’t be storing anything combustible in the fire opening especially wood next to your stove!
It shouldn’t be a heat related problem on the face of the chimney, that pic makes it look more like someone has booted it than anything else

Need more details. What was it like before would Help also. Normally heat cracks are above. Has the burner been fitted correctly

So basically no one really has a scooby doo! I agree with @Tinytom Looks like impact. Can't see it being heat. Doesn't look like damp. I'd just hack that off and patch it

It's been filled out with a gypsum backing plaster, it's probably still blocked up with s**t :) pot probably wide open with just a bit of mesh :)

If it's been recently fitted and the burner has been on those things get unbelievably hot so I think force drying would cause this especially if used wrong product like bonding & multi I personally think cement board cut perfectly and seal corner joints and round bottom with fireproof sealent and paint straight on board with fireproof paint
