oasis oasis oasis you will never learn if you dont try....................find the source of the damp and do it properly. :)

what are possible causes of damp in this situation bar down pipe, roof, or window not seal in..

BLUR you want tanking from keelsupply. is it an upstairs bedroom????? maybe you dont need a membrane if you can fix the problem eh?

Surely then the damp will just roll down the membrane and onto the floor. You need to identify the problem

Oasis i suggest you have a good search on the internet on the possible causes of damp, the types and condensation there is plenty of info out there and incorperate this in your armoury, in a couple of years of detective work diagnosing damp problems you will become an expert at it at the moment you could more damage than good.

When I go there friday I will take a look and up date pics, maybe an outside render fail? I get many jobs like this, loads actually I have 2 this week! Outside window wall with sash and usually rad ,damp or mold and render always soft as sand???? For it was just age and old windows ect this damp mad I no uses theys membranes all the time on theys jobs? Also how would u fix a rad back on? I take it needs a special fixing!

if it can be cured mate i would let the wall dry out batton and board it putting 100mm felt behind the battons, insulate between battons, but i think your best of finding the soure of the damp problem first

What is the point in the mesh membrane? This guy swears by it?every who sees it says ah thata never work!

None, if it's condensation , unless you dot thermal bonded boards over it, if it's penetrating or rising etc it will just keep it at bay behind the membrane , but it will still be damp. this is just a short answer to your question , there are many scenarios and cures , it's just a case of deciding on the right solution for your damp problem , like Luscious said do some home work and detective work and you should be able to come up with a remedy

It doesnt stop the damp it just stops it penetrating, the water has to go somewhere so you need to get rid of the water, its used in basements where water is always gonna be a problem that you will never get rid of coz of water levels and land backing onto the building. Unless you have a gully under a floor to let it run out or a pump to pump it out the water will always be there. The way your using it without diagnosing the problem is complete madness, fair enough it may not show straight away if the damp is penetrative but where will the water go?

^ Is correct.

Is it a nine inch wall? What about stone window cills, sometimes they are tipped into the house and rain comes in under the window. I'd deffinately try to find the problem before forking out on a possible solution that ends up not being a solution.

either way i can dab the membrane so even if i fix the damp i can dab the wall and skimit same day?

Oasis, you are not stopping the problem so the water will still come through and go down the membrane and either rot the floorboards or make its way into downstairs. You need to find and rectify the problem unless you are gonna put a trench in the floorboard for the channel to take the water out.

hack it off and re render with 2 nice thick coats of hardwall with a bit of fairy mixed in then top the same day with cheese
