Hi,
I've just said my hellos in the "meet & greet" catagory, so here is first question.

OK the kitchen I am doing in this 1970's bungalow has "plywood" sheeting glued to all the walls with EvoStick/Bostick type impact adheasive. When I pull the sheeting away from the walls it leaves the glue behind.....the glue is on top of plaster.

This stuff has been on there approx 45 years.....and it is absolutely solid.....you can see the "square like" groves where the glue has obviously been applied with the same sort of applicator that would be used for tile adheasive.

Can just PVA it and plaster it as normal....I would guess that the new plaster would adhere to it easily....my concern is whether or not the very old rock solid glue remains will somehow react with the new plaster?!?

Cheers

First of all i would try using a bladed scraper or window scraper to try and remove. If it definitely will not come off and will cover with the first coat of plaster i would pva and 2 coat skim as normal. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly with a different way of doing it.

Thanks Stuart

......to remove it I would need to :-

- grind it off (unthinkable amount of dust and effort)
.....or...
- SDS/Chisel it off (unthinkable amount of time and effort...and would no doubt need to chisel away the plaster under it too).

or is there some solvent/solution that would remove the glue?

I'm pretty sure first coat of plaster would easily cover it.

I would go for it mate, only time I've had problems is when I skimmed over a dark tar like glue and it bleed through the skim but that was moist to touch so you should be fine.
