My wood burner is in a fireplace that has been platered. Over a few years this plaster has cracked and come off the wall as it gets v. hot. I think I need to use a lime based render, so looking for tips & tricks so I don't have to do this job a third time !

Specifically : mix of lime cement sand,
number of coats,
will it bond to a previously PVA'ed surface
should I use some EML.
will this eventually crack with the heat ?

Thanks for any advice

Cheers
