anyone here aware of anyone or have any experience of plastering in the states or canada? im considering going over there (do to family) eventually and slightly worried about the whole thought of it. is there plenty of work out there? money good? do they use similar products? little if any information would be greatly appreciated.

depends what state your in(not you )but very very little skim mostly tape and joint plenty of exterior

no spunk too be honest not many white boys do the boarding (mexican or other hispanics) same with tappe and joint but its nearly always a differnt crew.white boys do the metal framing.
in the plastering game it really depends what state your in down in confederate land its mainly a negro trade and too be honest its is same in alot of states,my advise would be new england area there is more skimming there than any other state and they pay top dollar especially for "slick" finish.alot of skimming there isnt smooth but a light texture

sorry to add 10 years ago for slick finish we got $9 yd2 not m2 labour only doing schools each classroom and there were many had 100 yd2 andwe did 2 a day a 2+1 gang 1 window no ceilings loads a money finish for 3 at the latest

no slick = smooth and the texture finish was 1 water trowel up then skip trowel some runny mud on and knockdown with flat trowel ver quick looked ok.
a slicker was used in rendering or stucco as they call it.it was basically a 3 or 4 ft trowel blade usually magnesium sometimes wood you could pick the mud up straight from the spot board about 4 handboards a go and spread with it no handboard required,a good slicker man was rapid and it went on very flat a trowel man would bring the eges and cut up areas in.in florida where i spent most of my time there was very little flat render cos of the sun they textured it the same as the inside looked good and quick

yea some big black boys going all day in the heat.the blacks taught me how to keep going in the sun.they had no skin showing 100% cotton long sleeves and a hat let the sweat droplets keep you cool.never gulp water just sip often.ofcourse being english i just had my boots and shorts on and cooked all day they used to think i was mental.good lads tho and when they took me out in the hood well it was mental good narcs tho

i worked for one big black dude who had bout 50 lads going on some huge projects.he used to turn up in a massive dual cab dual wheeled pimped up pick up with gold all over him including his gob and always always women with him .good fella always there on time every friday with cash and beers for the lads one dude i dare say you would not of messed withi was the only white spread working with them and he made sure i was looked after i always turned up never let the fella down and he appreciated it cos believe me there was some fcuked up men out there
