I've not long served my 4 year apprenticeship in plastering and have been thinking about working abroad. Currently working for the local council and although it's easy enough and a pretty secure job working in a different country is more appealing. What country's are in high demand of plasterers? I heard Australia is not worth it as the living costs are so high your better off in the uk

I think you are needing more information about Australia,

I've worked in oz an yeah it's getting very pricey also most jobs when I was there in the trade are just short contracts don't know if that's changed
Also you need to be good at inside rendering they do that a lot with a white lime finish.
And also jointing if you can oh an some of the plaster boards are 18ft long for less joints
But you are normally in teams

Yeah as madmonk says oz internals are all s&c ... I worked in a 5:2 gang rendering new builds, the heat made it a challenge, money wasn't bad to begin with but you normally start on the mixers again regardless of what experience you have here. I was lucky to walk in throwing on but when the lab didn't show I was on the mixers running barrows all day lol ... Lads I worked for were rapid (thrown on, left an hour then straight edged then the s&c remixed from the edge then patched, final straight edge to finish. Setting is Lime Putty and I found it decent to use barring the lime burns lol - majority of corners are bull nosed rather than beaded.

Also did Acrylics and Sand finish (same as internals but stronger mix then after the final s/e its hosed with a fine spray and rubbed up with a sponge float)

Saw ceiling fixers, like madmonk says the boards were 18ft long ...... all taped and jointed though .

I was on $1000 a week which was roughly £650-£700 a week at the time.... £180 a week rent plus bills but nothing like we get here lol, a pint was £7-£9 depending what you drink, food dearer, petrol cheaper and free third party insurance with your tax in WA and I think a couple of other states.

Your wage would go up though after a bit... I know the lads who did the setting were makin $300-$400 a day and theres a lot of money in Acrylics

Hope that helps ;)
