I know you can skim over tiles. Did it a few yrs back in my own house after WBA

Remember it took ages to go off (no suction) and finish was good.

Mate walked away from a job today where bloke just wanted his whole bathroom which was covered from top to ceiling tiles in blue grit and skimming for speed.

If you have to skim over tiles are there any pitfalls apart from the time it takes the set to go off. Can you guys produce the same finish as over backing plaster/board.

Tight coat of bonding with some cement in it will take the texture out and pull the skim coat in quicker. I'd rather my skim coats shrunk to a smooth background than a textured one.

Is that lime based and does it need a long time drying out before you can top it off??

Yes lime based, I would give it a day but grips like shite to anything about £30 a bag but you only need a tight pass its a nice little thing to have in yer locker :RpS_thumbsup:

It doesnt matter what you are skimming over, paint, hardwall/bonding/render, plasterboard, or a mish mash of render, bonding, old skim, paint, old tile adhesive, deep holes in the wall.. if you are good at skimming, the finishing will be perfect regardless and you wouldn't have a clue what you have just skimmed over to just look at!

As far as plastering over tiles, no reason why not with a bonding agent providing the tiles are sound, however just the thought of my bathroom being all nicely painted but beneath that are some horrible old tiles all hidden just don't seem right to me.. even though its do able!
