Hi all,

I have bricked up and plastered the archway between my lounge and dining room.

I waited for it all to try thoroughly and then plainted.

When it all dried there was a crack that came around the join between the new and old plaster.

I have filled it a couple of times but it comes back - which is odd as there's no movement.

I wondered what could causing the crack to come back - could it be the outside corner support which was on the wall before I plastered it? I am at a loss to why the 3mm crack keeps re-occuring. As I say, it does not get any bigger than 3mm, but keeps returning.

Any clues?

cut the joint back 100mm either side of the crack back to the blockwork eml it and patch it again mate .....or wallpaper it

Was the new brickwork keyed to the old wall?
And how soon did you plaster the brickwork once it was built?
And did you tape the join?

Hi Nisus,

I have added comments to your questions below:

Yes, keyed all the way up and on the archway.

And how soon did you plaster the brickwork once it was built?

I left it two weeks before plastering.

And did you tape the join?

I did not use join tape.

Would you also suggest cutting the plaster back to the brickworkl at 100mm, adding join tape and re-plastering?

if you want to do make sure, do as spunky says, cut it back and mesh it, bonding/hardwall the chase then reskim the whole wall.

just do as flynny says it dont need eml if the brickwork is tied in i would put some 2inch skrim over the crack then some 4inch just to make sure i promise you it will not burst through that and skim the lot again
