poorly skimmed wall

Hello,

I'm getting my bathroom renovated myself what goes reasonably well. Except of one point - skimming. The is my first approach to skimming so it should not be a surprise.

There were 3 walls to skim + ceiling (4th wall has tiles on). Interestingly out of all the skimming I did in the room, the ceiling looks the most promising! The worst is the wall that I did on the very end (one would think that the first wall should look terrible as I did not have any experience but I think I became too brave and wanted to get with this last one in no time) :(

The wall itself has door so there was not much rendering to skim. So how do I fix it? Can I sand it slightly down? What sanding paper would you recommend?

The main problem with the wall is that the skim has some small (possibly 0.5mm deep) patches that look like the second coat was not equally applied (or with too little plaster). Can I actually equalise it with water and trowel (knowing that it is around 12 hours since it was skimmed)?

Thank you in advance!

y did u not get a plasterer in to do it. it would have took about half day to do.

now this is how u fix it. get a plasterer in to do it

theclemo, getting a plasterer will take me a week or so as you guys are always busy... if this is a case I prefer to get on with it myself and put one more layer to equalise it. Why should I get a plasterer? Though, I though there is a quick way to sand it slightly as the wall does not have to be perfect.

why should u get a plasterer. to get the job done right.

now pva the wall and skim. r wait a week like u would have to on a plasterer and sand like fu@k:RpS_wink:

Sorry but you really cant expect to get a good job if you do it yourself no matter how small the area is. I bet you would have expected to get a perfect job if a plasterer had done it !! Easyfill and sand is the best way to repair your bodge but why not wait to get it done properly next time because by the time you have messed about with it you will have taken more time and spent more money anyway.

Easi fill and sandin pole for you mate, youll find it in the "wish I'd got a plasterer" section in b&q, good luck:RpS_biggrin:

Right, why should I go for Easi fill as oppose to putting on one more layer of plaster?

Well you couldn't get the first attempt right , why do you think your gonna get the second attempt right ?, just go with the advice your given , or just keep pva-ing and skimming your choice

just a note of advice dont keep doing the above or the room will get smaller good luck and welcome to the forum :RpS_lol:

I say well done that man giving it a go.

“When things go wrong, you'll find they usually go on getting worse for some time; but when things once start going right they often go on getting better and better.”
I think C.S.Lewis said this but it sums up the plastering game to me.
It also proves how difficult it is; and maybe makes people more aware of how important we are as a skilled trade.

Get some PVA on it and try again.

Rock on !

Good on you for having a go, perhaps now you can see why plastering is a skilled trade., unless Casper did it for you, failed plasterer.com .

Ok guys, I went yesterday to my other home (b&q) and got sanding screen. This works great for me! Got all the trowel marks and the imperfections sanded down and the wall looks like I'd expect it.

Of course this is just my wee bathroom, so not a big deal. I wouldn't plaster myself my living room! ;)

Conclusion - you can fix some small imperfections with sanding screen. Just make sure the plaster is totally dry!

good on ya mate for trying!

i like people who try it themselves they end up turning into good payers
